FAN: LOWER-TECH CLIMATE CONTROL
Fan
Among the simplest, most energy-efficient ways to keep cool is with a tried-and-true fan. By creating a wind chill effect, a fan helps you feel cooler without actually lowering the temperature—and with much less energy than an air conditioner uses. Ceiling fans are most effective for cooling a whole room, but if you’re looking for a quick, subtle burst of cool, a portable or window fan can be a good compromise.
Honeywell makes two fans known for their cooling powers: the Honeywell Dual window fan and the Super Turbo High Performance oscillating table fan.
For the freshest and safest food, keep your refrigerator’s temperature set between 36 degrees F and 40 degrees F and your freezer between 0 degrees F and 5 degrees F. Any lower and you’ll be unnecessarily using up to 25 percent more energy.
